Activity: Each student selects a beat and associates it with a word.
The teacher (or a student serving as a conductor) points to students in different sequences, and they clap their beats, creating various sequences. They later combine the beats with the associated words, creating different phrases/sentences.
Or, students memorize a sequence of beats, and then say their words in different sequences, trying not to get confused.
Part of the fun associated with the activity is the lack of compatability between the number of syllables in a word and the beat. Teachers may want to instruct the students to spread the word on the full bar, creating distorted words, or pronounce it at the beginning of the bar.
